BrewDog

After a quick decision of groups and a night of researching different companies and designers. We decided that one of the most interesting companies we could look into would be BrewDog. Most people will be aware of brewdog and that it started very recently and has grown extremely quickly, we want to know how they did it and all the behind the scene goings on.
With a phenomonal marketing and branding campaign as well as a great product it will be interesting to find out more about the two students that started up their own brewery! Watch for more!

Live Work

Following on from new projects the first design and the market project looks at finding out how a business operates, why is it sucessful, and why they do the things they do.

This reminded me of a short presentation I did in first year on Live Work, first service design studio. They are now celebrating 10 years of being an organisation and have a long list of very respectable clients as well as offices in Norway, London and Brazil. Check them out, very impressive work!

New Semester

So got some new modules and some new projects to go with them:

Design and the Market introduces the business side of the design world and is by far one of the most interesting things I am doing at the moment. Hopefully be able to get somewhere with my own projects through this!

Product Design project is a D and A D design competition brief which is very interesting and offers a wide area for creativity and some great rewards!

Engineering Design is well engineering and by far not the most interesting project but hopefully can put a positive spin on it!

NCR - Service Design

NCR

This project was all about redesigning self service in supermarkets. With a certain selection of items that had to be processed including loose fruit and vegetables, electronics, and alcohol.

My design brought together a service and a product, making an overall experience that was suitable for a large target market from the young and technologie savie to the more elderly. My final concept board is below:

SofTorch

SofTorch

This was a group project we did that looked at redesiging electronic consumables that were made out of hard materials such as plastic or metal with soft materials such as felt or other textiles.

Our final design was SofTorch, this was a torch, made of engineering felt, that had been laser cut. Some images are shown below:

Side by Side

Side by Side – Aphasia Project

This project brought together designing a service for people that suffered from Aphasia. We held and event where people who suffered Aphasia from SpeakEasy Tayside came and we got to experience first hand how they felt and what they had to go through. In the end we devised a blog that contains information about aphasia, events,  support, and how to raise awareness. The address is below:

Keep the Beat

This project was all about designing a radio. We were given the components and had to figure out how to wire up the device and solder it. We then had to design the housing for the radio.

Mine was based on the fact that I love music. It used the design of a guitar amp and drumsticks. In order to change the volume or radio station you have to use the drumsticks as a key and then you can use them to tap along to what ever song is on the radio. Below is my concept board:

Fear Box

This was a project about sound interaction. It was based around the idea of doing something and creating sounds. Me and Stephen Moore decided to do a project based around the idea of emotions and chose fear.

Everything was programmed using picaxe and everything was posted on our project blog:
